National Sovereignty and Children’s Day in Turkey – 23 Nisan Ulusal Egemenlik ve Cocuk Bayramı

23 April is the day that the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was established in 1920. The public committee reprimanded the public authority of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed VI and declared a tempory constitution.

This public day, 23 April Children’s Day in Turkey is a remarkable occasion. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, introduced to every one of the worlds youngesters to stress that they are the successor of the future.

During the war of Independance, Grand National Assembly met in Ankara and set out the establishments of another, independant, common and present day republic from the remains of the Ottoman Empire. Following the defeat of the allied invasion forces on September 9, 1922 and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on July 24, 1923, Ataturk began his task of establishing the institutions of the new state. Over the following eight years, Ataturk and his supporters received clearing changes to make an advanced Turkey, separated from its Ottoman past. In exceptional moves, he devoted the sovereignty day to the youngsters and endowed in the possession of the adolescent the assurance of this sovereignty and independance.

Each year, the children of Turkey observe National Sovereignty and Children’s Day as a public occasion. Like other Spring occasions, Children’s Day festivities regulary occur outdoors. Schools take a week long interest with functions set apart by exhibitions in huge arenas and open park stadiums watched by the whole nation. Children participate in dancing, singing and special prosessions throughout the week. Ataturk dedicated this day to all children of the World and pioneered to celebrate this day every year by children with same joy and cheer.
